Here we go…

October 11, 2009

Hi. I’m Dany. I’m a 22 year old Columbia Heights-ian who has lived in the area (on and off) for pretty much as long as I can remember. My project partner, and general partner in crime, is Mark, he’s a 24 year old native Columbia-Heights-ian, who, similarly has lived in Columbia Heights (off and on) for as long as he can remember.

We both young black college graduates who left the city during that time after the metro was built in ’99 and returned post-DC USA in 2008. Our families have been priced out of the area, with one of still able to take residence  in the neighborhood.

Mark majored in film. I majored in what I like to call “anti-racism.” We both experience a huge level of animosity in our daily lives in Columbia Heights. We don’t like it. We hope to bring our skills and analysis to create change in our community.

This project aims to create a neighborhood where residents can work through this animosity through opening lines of communication. This blog will, hopefully, play a large role in that. We are hoping to post segments of our interviews every 4-8 weeks. So, keep following what’s goin’ on, and get ready for the ride!
